Principles of Climate Justice are a part of everything we do. Following Creative Scotland’s Climate Emergency and Sustainability Plan (2019), and the 5 Green Economy Principles (Planetary Boundaries, wellbeing, justice, efficiency & Sufficiency, Good governance), we
- Work fairly and Sustainably,
- Work within Planetary Boundaries,
- Uphold Good Governance,
- and Continuously Improve.
Advancing the equality of opportunity between people is a core tenet that is built into SLN. In developing our EDI strategy we consulted the Creative Scotland EDI toolkit (2019) and CVAN Fair and Equitable Report (2022). The principles that we will work on for 2025 are to
- meet people’s needs,
- minimise disadvantages,
- diversify creative work for audiences,
- and foster the environment that encourages people to participate where this is low.
We recognise that the art sector has a history of centralising and extracting knowledge to validate its own authority. We are committed to making art projects, where the voices, opinions and knowledge from those who are most engaged or affected by a subject are for a longer period of time, most affected, most knowledgeable and experienced in this subject is prioritised and that this relationship is conducted in a generative rather than extractive way.
